We hold monographs, journals, photographs, artwork, maps, atlases, globes, artefacts and manuscripts.

Eric Newby Collection

A collection newly acquired by the Society includes photographs and diary entries by one of the world’s first travel writers, Eric Newby, who set sail, aged just 18, from Belfast in 1938 for one of the last grain races to Australia. The archive includes his letters, manuscripts, diaries, notebooks and photographs, and provide fascinating insights into his life, as well as a window on his time and travels, and will be accessible to all through the Foyle Reading Room and online.

Purchase prints

Some of the most iconic and important images and maps from the Society's Collection have been specially selected for the Society’s print-on-demand service. Visitors to the RGS Print Store can browse and buy prints of photographs, artworks and maps dating from 1553, many of which are unique to the Society. Items can be purchased mounted or un-mounted, and in a variety of sizes, with prices starting at just £16 plus post and packaging.

Every purchase supports the ongoing work of the Society.

Sponsor conservation

We have an ongoing programme to preserve our Collections. If you would like to make a donation towards conservation activities, or sponsor the conservation of a specific item, please contact our Deputy Librarian, Jan Turner.
