Nathan is an expedition doctor, photographer and climate advocate based in London, with a particular interest in supporting scientific research expeditions to remote and austere environments. He has experience in polar, desert, jungle, high altitude and marine environments, is on the teaching faculty for several wilderness medicine training organisations, and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a Fellow of Extreme and Wilderness Medicine. Particular highlights include working as the expedition doctor and photographer for the Zoological Society of London on a multinational ecological research expedition to the Chagos Archipelago in 2022, and as the doctor and assistant photographer for a National Geographic and Rolex funded expedition to unexplored caves in North Greenland in 2023. When not on expedition, he works as an emergency medicine doctor at St Thomas’ Hospital, and works with the trust sustainability team on driving the hospital’s Net Zero agenda. He is also the founder of Eco Medics, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving awareness and education around the interplay between the climate crisis and healthcare, a topic on which he gave a TEDx talk last year in London, and he uses his social media platform to raise awareness of this topic along with medical considerations on expedition.
