During his PhD at University College London, Myles set up UCL Space Health Risks Research Group, and led an international team to develop an analogue mission that simulated the human exploration of another planet, the first of its kind in the UK. The mission took place on a remote and uninhabited island in Scotland.
The exact location of the island was kept secret so when analogue astronauts arrived they saw it for the first time, just like astronauts arriving on another planet.
Research included medical anthropology, astropharmacy, and testing newly developed health monitoring technology. Space Health Research was founded to continue this work and provide more analogue mission opportunities in the UK.
