Catherine is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Oxford and has been based in the REACH water research programme for the last 6 years. She is a critical development geographer exploring research questions where water, politics and human development meet. She has extensive fieldwork experience in East Africa and in 2019, founded the Oxford University’s Fieldwork Network. Now a well-established group of more than 200 staff and students, the Network actively supports and connects field researchers with training, informal exchanges, signposting and information sharing. In 2021, Catherine led the development of Oxford's Code of Conduct for Ethical Fieldwork. She is involved in lobbying efforts for institutions to adequately prepare fieldworkers for the risks to physical and mental health, towards easier, more equitable and safer fieldwork adventures.
