Former theoretical physicist turned adventure capitalist, Al led his first expedition, HLR 2022, last year. The (many) mistakes he made as a novice explorer are therefore fresh in his mind if anybody wants to learn from them.
With no completely unknown places left on earth, his quest for undiscovered country takes the form of scientific exploration. HLR 2022 showed that climate change is making some historical mountaineering routes unjustifiable. They recorded this through artwork to be included in the Lunar Codex project, a time-capsule of contemporary artwork going to the moon in 2024. Scientifically, they demonstrated that it is possible to measure the atmospheric transport of microplastics over a wide area by measuring snow on high-altitude glaciers.
