In this workshop we will explore how gentle yoga, mindfulness, and creative practices can support health geographers with (re)moving experiences of shame and avoiding burnout in academia. Personal or individual shame experiences might include feelings of rejection, failure, imposter syndrome, doubt, criticism, and competition. This can lead to overwhelm and burnout. These experiences are created through wider institutional, economic, and social structures, conditions, and affects. Conditions which render academics (but particularly marginalised, under-represented, or early career) vulnerable to mental and physical health impacts. This workshop will use embodied and creative praxis to support reflection on these issues, and will also offer practical tools and ideas to support the (re)movement of shame, attuning to energy cycles, holding boundaries and exploring ways to release, uplift and revitalise the body.
