In light of the UK Climate Change Strategy running 2021-2024 and a refresh expected, this event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the state of UK climate policy, highlight achievements of the past five years and discuss priorities moving forward. It will also include reflections from four panellists, followed by a panel discussion.

- The Rt. Hon. The Lord Deben
- Lord Deben, is the founder and Chairman of Sancroft International, a consultancy that advises both businesses and investors on all areas of Sustainability and Environmental and Social Governance (ESG). Between 2012 and 2023 he was Chairman of the UK’s Independent Climate Change Committee. Lord Deben was also the UK’s longest serving Secretary of State for the Environment (1993-97) having previously been Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food. His sixteen years of top-level ministerial experience also include Minister for London, Employment Minister, and Paymaster General in HM Treasury. Lord Deben is currently Chairman of Valpak Ltd and of PIMFA, the trade body representing financial advisers and wealth managers. Throughout his political, business, and personal life Lord Deben has consistently championed an accord between sustainability and business sense.
- Kerry McCarthy, Labour MP for Bristol East and Shadow Minister for Climate Change
- Kerry McCarthy is the Labour MP for Bristol East and has been serving as Labour's Shadow Minister for Climate Change since June 2022. She has also previously served as Labour's Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Shadow Minister for Green Transport, and was first elected in 2005.
- Professor Carly McLachlan, Professor of Climate and Energy Policy, and Director of Tyndall Manchester

Professor Carly McLachlan is the Director of Tyndall Manchester - an interdisciplinary team working on policy relevant research on climate change based within the School of Engineering at the University of Manchester. Carly is also Associate Director of the ESRC Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformation. Her research interests focus on how stakeholders, including publics, engage with energy and sustainability issues and the role of evidence and leadership within decision-making. Her primary current research focus is on city-level decarbonisation.

Dr Donal Brown is an experienced business owner, researcher and consultant with 15 years experience in the low carbon housing and renewable energy sectors. Prior to joining Ashden, Donal was Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex and is Director of the low carbon architecture firm and consultancy - Sustainable Design Collective.
