This National Lottery Open Week we’re saying #Thankstoyou and unlocking our archives with a free digital talk exploring Antarctic photography from the ‘Heroic Age’.
Join Alasdair MacLeod, Head of Enterprise and Resources at the Society for an introductory talk on early photography in the Antarctic, drawing on images and items from the Society’s Collections, including the work of two of the key photographers of the ‘heroic age’ of Antarctic exploration: Herbert Ponting and Frank Hurley. Ponting accompanied Captain Robert Falcon’s Scott’s Terra Nova expedition of 1910-123, whilst Hurley joined Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance expedition of 1914-17.
