Leave a legacy

Legacy gifts fund our activities promoting and supporting geography as the means for everyone to discover, understand and respect the world’s people, places and environments.

Legacy gifts are extremely valuable and allow anyone to give significant sums to the Society without immediate cost. Unrestricted support provides flexible financial resources which amplify the contribution that geography makes to understanding our world, making vital contributions to our knowledge of the rapidly changing environmental and social challenges facing us and how we should tackle them.

Your family and loved ones come first, but we hope that once you have provided for them, you will also remember the Society. You can make a difference in helping everyone to become planetary caretakers by leaving a gift to the Society in your will.

You can choose how to leave a legacy depending on your personal circumstances and intentions:

Residuary legacy

Leave the whole or a proportion of your estate once all your commitments, taxes and gifts have been paid. It is not a fixed sum.

Reversionary legacy

Enable your friends or family to retain your estate for their lifetime, before passing onto the Society.

Pecuniary legacy

Make a monetary gift of a fixed sum (which could be indexed to RPI to sustain its value over time).

Specific legacy

Leave assets such as goods, property or shares.

Tax incentive

The Society is a registered charity (no: 208791) and under current UK legislation, any gift to the Society is tax free and may reduce the tax burden of your estate. Charitable gifts that exceed 10% of the taxable portion of your estate may qualify your estate for a tax break.

Your will is one of the most important documents you will make so we recommend you taking legal advice to avoid any complications.
