Pam Alexander studied geography at Newnham College, Cambridge. With housing as her passion, Pam began her career in the civil service at the Department of the Environment (now Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). She became head of the Housing Associations Division before moving on to executive positions at English Heritage, the South East England Development Agency, and to other roles in both the private and public sector.
Power of place was a key focus in each position Pam held, particularly the relationship between communities and the place where they live. Throughout her career she also sought to encourage more women to take up senior positions. She was appointed OBE in 2012 for her services to urban regeneration in the South East.
