The Society's journal, Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers, is seeking a new Editor and four new Editorial Board members.
The new Editor will join the current editorial team of Professor Katherine Brickell (King’s College London), Professor Beth Greenhough (University of Oxford) and Professor Colin McFarlane (Durham University).
The new Editor will be an internationally renowned scholar who has excellent networks worldwide and a broad interest in, and support for, the full range of research work undertaken in geography, especially at the highest international standing. They will have a commitment to attracting the best papers and to spending the time needed to perform as a proactive Editor, including actively encouraging submissions and promoting the journal, as well as a sympathetic and diplomatic approach to authors and referees. They will also be willing and able to provide proactive mentorship and support to the Transactions Editorial Board, which comprises mid-career scholars. We are keen for the new appointment to extend the scholarly expertise of the current editorial team.
The four new members of the Editorial Board will join six existing members to provide active support to the Editors by increasing the diversity of sub-disciplinary expertise in the journal’s editorial team, and to provide clearer pathways into future editorial roles for scholars across the geography community.
The role of Editorial Board member is designed to provide support to postholders in advancing their careers by providing elements of hands-on experience of making editorial decisions and setting journal strategies, whilst being mentored by an experienced team of Editors. The role is therefore suitable for those who have not previously held an editorial position but feel they would be in the position to do so within the next few years. It provides an excellent opportunity to gain editorial experience in one of the discipline’s leading journals.
The deadline for applications for both the Editor and Editorial Board members is 31 January 2024.
